A New Addition to the Family
After a frustrating 30 minutes or so, I finally switched out the Nikkor 105mm 2.8 for an 85mm 1.4 to give myself just a bit more breathing room. Keeping puppies at a distance can be an epic challenge.

I love shooting at Notre Dame, it’s perhaps one of the best places to see a college football game. It was such a beautiful night following the Purdue game, I parked illegally, and ran over to grab this quick pic of the golden dome using my Nikkor 105mm latched onto my Nikon D500.
I busted out the GoPro9 for a day in at the pool with my daughters. Great thing about the GoPro is you can pretty much take it any where, shoot in video, and grab frames that are “good enough” in a digital environment.
Lots of lines and lots of shadows. This is one of my favorite images. I had my Nikkor 200-500mm lens attached with the intention to shoot birds, which I guess I did - British slang humor.
Cooped up for nearly a year we took a trip to the Santa Cruz pier to let the girls break loose. This also gave me a chance to play around a bit with a Tokina 11-16mm lens I picked up. I over saturated the images on purpose, because, well, why not.
Sophia is fearless, so this photo of her pretty much sums it up. My Nikkor 105mm is behind this image. I love this lens. The eyes are soft, it’s all about the eyes damn it!!!
My daughter Claire took a few wood chips on the bottom with this hard landing. This was taken with my Nikkor 105mm. I’m standing a wee a bit too close, though the image still seemed to work out.
Shooting night games in poorly lit stadiums is something I wish I could manage more efficiently. I don't like pumping up the ISO, and the edges of the field at this venue were considerably darker than the middle. Nevertheless, I managed to get a decent frame here.
This image was taken with my D500 and an old 300mm manual focus lens I rented for a Cal Rugby Game. I feel like I’m in the minority when I say I really prefer shooting sports with these old manual focus lenses. The flow just works better for me.
